The Chicago consumer rights and class action lawyers at Markoff Leinberger know that animal lovers are watching closely the latest lawsuit brought against the Nestle Purina food company.
The lawsuit originated in California, and alleges that numerous dogs have become sick or died because of chemicals contained in Beneful dog food. The specific chemicals in question are Propylene glycol, a synthetic liquid that absorbs water, and Mycotoxin, a fungi.
NBS News and other media outlets report that lawsuit was brought by pet owner Frank Lucido. He contends that more than one of his dogs became ill or died after eating Beneful, and that veterinarian exams revealed internal bleeding and other symptoms consistent with poisoning.
The lawsuit contends that Lucido is one of thousands of consumers who have lodged complaints about Beneful.
Purina Nestle responded with a public statement saying that there are no quality-control issues with Beneful, and that the company intends to vigorously defend itself against the allegations in this lawsuit.
This is but the latest lawsuit against Purina Nestle. Last year, the company settled another class action brought on behalf of pet owners who believed their animals suffered negative health consequences after eating jerky treats manufactured in China.
